Original Simple Soaker™ - Our original Simple Soaker™system was designed years ago as a no frills, inexpensive alternative to our Power Pak™ systems. It is a weather proof electro-mechanical system with an Intermatic mechanical timer that controls heating and filtration cycles. The Intermatic 24/7 timer is the type of control that has been used for pool heating and filtration for decades. The system is used with either gas or electric heat.
Digital Soaker™ - Technology marches on, however, and now some customers want their soaking systems a little less simple, with some of the bells and whistles that digital systems offer. So, we've introduced our Digital Soaker™. . It is our Spa Pak configured with a small circulating pump to work as a soaking system. It offers WiFi Control potential and more flexibility in controlling the heat and filtration cycles. Like the Spa Pak, the Digital Soaker™ is not weather proof. It can be used with electric or gas heat and can even be used as a combination gas and electric heat system.
- Pricing - The Digital Soaker™ system provides the lowest priced entry point for a 5.5 kW hot tub. That is because the heater and control unit are a single integrated component. In contrast, for an 11 kW system the original Simple Soaker™ is a little less expensive than the Digital Soaker. That’s because the Digital Soaker™ requires an auxiliary heating unit with its own case. The Simple Soaker™ requires only the addition of a small heating element to double the output. Heating elements are cheap enough that we charge the same price for the original Simple Soaker™ regardless of whether or not it is 5.5 KW or 11 kW.
When used with a gas heater the Digital Soaker™ is a little cheaper because it uses non weather proof components. It also allows you to use the electric heat in combination with the gas heater so you can have a combined gas/electric heat system.
- Versatility – The Digital Soaker™ provides a more versatile platform. You can set it to maintain temperature at any set point you wish. It also allows for dual temperature ranges. You can create a low range say 20-25 degrees below normal, if you will be on vacation or won’t be using it for a while. You can also create filtration cycles, completely independent of the heat demand. And, of course, the Digital Soaker™ is WiFi capable, needing only the receiving unit to allow you to control it from anywhere with your phone.
As an added bonus, the Digital Soaker™ can be used as a combination gas/electric heat system when paired with a gas heater. This is because the Balboa BP501 control box comes with an integral 5.5 kW heating element. You can choose to use it as a gas only system or as a combination gas and electric heat system.
The Original Simple Soaker™ has a simple 24/7 electromechanical timer as its “brains”. You can set the timer to control when the pump will come on and that governs both the filtration and heating. Heating will only occur when the timer turns on the pump so you will need to set the timer cycle so it comes on in time to make sure the tub is up to temperature when you typically use it.
It may not have the bells and whistles of the Digital Soaker™, but it is as solid and “bullet proof” a system as you can find. The Original Simple Soaker™ also should be your choice if you will be relying on any kind of off gird power. Off-grid power isn’t as “clean” as grid power and can be disruptive to digital circuit boards.
- Weather Proof – The Original Simple Soaker™ is a weather proof system and needs no enclosure of any kind. The Digital Soaker™ is not weather proof and needs to be enclosed in a structure that will prevent rain and snow from reaching it. We offer cedar enclosures if you aren't planning on building your own.
